On Prayer
✨On Prayer✨
When we enter a space of prayer, we are not speaking into an echoless chamber.
The act of prayer is a sending out of a signal, into a wonderfully diverse universe, full of intricate operations and designs and conditions- all of which are waiting to support you in watering your own life as well as the lives of those around you, with your words, and with the sweet signature of your heart’s deepest yearning.
When you connect with the elemental beings, for example, in prayer- you send out a song of intent from the core of your being, into the realm that is occupied and overseen by their inherent nature.
You offer up your vital energy and attention to something of the earth, something which belongs to her, which responds to her, which generates all sorts of wild phenomena like rain, sleet and snow- sun and shimmers and rainbows- all on her behalf!
When you pray to the elementals, you may receive an elemental response. You may notice that you tune in to the frequencies emitted by wind and rain, more subtlety.
When you pray to the ancestors, perhaps the responses that you feel from them may come by way of your emotions. Perhaps you feel a firey passion emerge, or a sulken sadness deadening a buried rage. All of it is information. And what if, rather than be a judge of what shows up, using it as a meter to equate yourself to somewhere along an invisible scale of “good” or “bad”- you could be a witness to it?
Acknowledging what shows up, as a gift, arriving in the form of an answered prayer...even if it goes way beyond (or falls beneath) expectation.
Prayer is an act of intimacy. It is a way to commune with so many unique types of beings, and a way to come to know them more closely through experience.
A prayer can be a silent intention held, it can be a dance or a movement, or can be songs and sound and poems and where words are vibrant gems strewn upon the starry necklace of the moment. A prayer is a creation, naming the tenders of your joys and woes, feeding the Spirit that holds us all in these wondrously infinite membranes of creation!
And, a prayer is often most generative when it is on another’s behalf.
Let us re-member how to pray, sincerely, generously, graciously, joyously, life-affirmingly, on one another’s behalf.
